Tatvam Movie Review

A Rural Murder Mystery With Strong Twists

Tatvam is a Telugu murder mystery thriller starring Dinesh Tej and Dhasvika Kinthalli in the lead roles. Written and directed by Arjun Kola, the film was released in theatres on October 2, 2026. The movie combines a rural setting, crime investigation, suspense, emotional drama and philosophical elements.

The film arrived with curiosity because of its murder-mystery storyline and the promise of a different investigation thriller. After its theatrical release, early reviews have described it as a film with an interesting central idea and some effective twists, although the first half and pacing have received criticism.

Tatvam Story

Dinesh Tej plays Kalyan, a police constable who dreams of becoming a Sub-Inspector. While waiting for the results of his examination, Kalyan travels to the village of Ramapuram for a marriage proposal.

There, he meets Soumya, played by Dhasvika Kinthalli, and develops an interest in her. But his visit to the village takes an unexpected turn when a couple named Murthy and Nagamani are brutally murdered.

The murder becomes the central mystery of the film. Kalyan becomes interested in discovering what really happened and begins looking for answers. As the investigation progresses, questions surrounding the victims, the people in the village and the circumstances behind the murders gradually come to the surface.

The story also touches on superstition, rural politics, human nature and philosophical ideas, giving the film more depth than a straightforward police investigation.

Dinesh Tej’s Performance

Dinesh Tej is one of the key strengths of Tatvam. His character starts as an ordinary constable with ambitions of becoming an SI and gradually becomes involved in a complicated murder investigation.

His performance becomes more important as the investigation develops. The character requires a balance between emotional scenes and investigative moments, and Dinesh Tej handles the role with sincerity.

Dhasvika Kinthalli also performs well as Soumya. The supporting actors contribute to the rural atmosphere and help build the mystery around the central murder case.

Direction and Screenplay

Director Arjun Kola attempts to give the familiar murder-mystery format a rural and philosophical treatment. Instead of focusing only on police investigation and action, the film explores questions about truth, superstition, social perceptions and human behaviour.

The second half reportedly contains stronger suspense elements, twists and investigative developments. Some reviewers have particularly appreciated the way the mystery unfolds later in the film.

However, the screenplay is not equally engaging throughout. The first half moves slowly, with some scenes taking longer than necessary to establish the characters and situation. Tighter editing could have improved the pace and made the investigation more gripping from the beginning.

Technical Aspects

Bharat Patti’s cinematography is one of the film’s notable technical aspects. The camera work captures the rural environment and supports the mood of the murder mystery.

Chaitan Bharadwaj’s music and background score help enhance the suspense in important scenes. The background score particularly contributes to the tension during investigation sequences.

Editor Viplav Nyshadam does a functional job, although several reviews suggest that additional trimming in the first half could have improved the overall flow.

Final Verdict

Tatvam is a rural murder mystery that tries to offer more than a routine crime investigation. The combination of suspense, village politics, superstition, emotion and philosophical ideas gives the movie an interesting foundation.

The biggest drawback is the slow first half. The movie takes time to establish its world and characters, which may test the patience of viewers looking for a fast-paced thriller. However, the second half reportedly delivers better suspense, twists and investigative moments.

Dinesh Tej and Dhasvika Kinthalli make sincere contributions, while Bharat Patti’s cinematography and Chaitan Bharadwaj’s background score support the film’s atmosphere.

Overall, Tatvam may appeal particularly to viewers who enjoy rural crime thrillers and murder mysteries. Those expecting a consistently fast-paced investigation may find the first half slow, but the later twists provide enough material to keep thriller fans interested.
